Croatian-English Dictionary
After the great success and much positive response and feedback to the German Croatian dictionary, we decided to expand the dictionary by an English section, which was released on the first of January 2011 making a comprehensive Croatian English dictionary available online.
Since its launch in 2006, the German Croatian dictionary has been continuously developed and the number of headwords, phrases and idioms has grown each day to approximately 230,000 today. There is a team of native speakers of both languages busy in maintaining and expanding both the quality and the amount of entries and translations considering users' suggestions for new entries in doing so.
The same high standards are applied to the freshly started English Croatian dictionary. Native English speakers together with mother-tongue speakers of Croatian take care of the correct entry of words and expressions. In addition, readers are encouraged to make their own suggestions, if there is a phrase or vocable missing. Those proposals are then checked and added to the dictionary, which that way continues to expand by the joint efforts of developers and users. At this time, there are about 200,000 entries listed in the Croatian English dictionary, while the treasury of words is ongoing extended and checked. The new Croatian English dictionary comprises not only single words also phrases and idioms, which are commonly used or typical for each language. The most popular translations are listed extra for a quick look-up.
The dictionary is easy to use and self-explanatory to anyone. There is no need of being able to type special characters and signs as they appear in the Gaj's Latin alphabet or Gajica. This Glagolitic scripture is a version of the Latin alphabet, which is used for Croatian language. To search the dictionary, you can give the standard Latin transcript to look for a translation. Numbers can even be typed as numbers and their translation will be shown as word.
As a special feature, you find an editor to transfer standard alphabet scripture to Glagolitic Script providing an easy way to write this old Croatian
