Croatian-German Dictionary
www.croDict.com is a Croatian online-dictionary launched in 2006, offering translation services in German and Croatian language. It was the first croatian online dictionary and today it is still a unique tool for translations from German into Croatian or from Croatian into German.
While many users of other dictionaries struggle with special letters or accents of some languages, which make the process of finding what they are looking for long and stressful, one of the big advantages of crodict.com is that there is no need to type any special letters or symbols: The software will accept any way of spelling, as long as the vowels and consonants are the right ones, even if they miss dots or accents. This is very helpful.
Users also profit from the various languages the dictionary is available – you can also use every part of the website translated into English or Croatian. The dictionary is constantly growing, especially because it is possible for users to send in suggestions for difficult or missing translations and they can also discuss them on the forum the website contains. To avoid losing quality by people sending in wrong translations, the project leaders check suggestions very carefully. Since all translations and corrections are made by native speakers, the quality of the dictionary’s entries is very high.
Another useful and interesting – or even entertaining – feature is the possibility to translate set phrases or common parts of sentences. This allows users to get a better felling for the languages.
The translation of numbers is very easy as well. Typing the numbers with the number keys on the keyboard it's enough to get a correct translation in written form – 200 will be translated into “zweihundert” (German) or “dvjesto” (Croatian). There is no possibility to translate all ordinal numbers yet, but the project leaders are working on it hard.
Users also have the possibility to conjugate German verbs. A this moment Croatian verbs cannot be conjugated yet, but this feature will be available as soon as possible. The dictionary contains about 230,000 entries.
Moreover the dictionary can be used as a German-Bosnian or German-Serbian dictionary as well, but only where Croatian is similar to the other two languages.
Since January 2011 the website offers an English-German dictionary as well.
